Can you be fit but fat?
Obesity is strongly associated with all cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, and cancer (reference: [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19940414/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19940414/)) While there is some evidence that you can be ‘fit and fat’ insofar as you can be obese but still have healthy biomarkers (reference: [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24438729/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24438729/) ) it appears that even when ‘healthy obese’ (obese people with healthy blood markers) are compared to healthy non-obese, there is still an increased risk for mortality, cancer, and cardiovascular disease (reference:[https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23637352/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23637352/)
In this video I break down the current research and talk about why acknowledging this research isn’t the same thing as fat shaming and why it’s important for HAES and the fitness industry to stop talking past each other.
