Any serious lifter is aware of “the burn” – that moment when your muscles are on fire and you can barely put up another set. Some people incorrectly attribute this as part of the pump. The reality is that the burn is actually from lactic acid in your muscles. It causes soreness and it’s what causes you to eventually have to “give up” when you’ve maxed out.
