Eating Plants Makes You Sterile??? | What the Fitness | Layne Norton PhD

This is my 2nd go around with Dr. Robert Kiltz, a fertility specialist. I did a video on him a few years ago & then ran into him at the Low Carb Conference I spoke at in Denver in 2023. At the conference he had some ‘interesting’ theories about carbs, including that glycogen is NOT the storage form of carbohydrate, rather that end glycation products are (they aren’t). He also inquired about how they measured glycogen, to which I responded that glycogen content is assessed via a stain assay in research. He asked me if I had ever done it myself to which I responded “have I ever personally stained for glycogen content in a lab? No. But if I needed to perform every accepted lab technique myself before trusting it, then I’d be left with very few things to talk about.” Probably just should have asked him how glycation is measured & ask him if he has ever done the assay himself (he hasn’t, I assure you).

ANYWAYS… in this video he claims that plants will make you infertile & that his clients become more fertile when they switch to carnivore. Not only is that not supported by data, the research data we do have on it suggests the opposite LOL. Plant intake is actually associated with improved fertility in men & women but it depends on the quality of the plants, ie ultra processed plant foods are associated with lower fertility whereas whole plant foods are associated with improved fertility (PMIDs: 36273319 & 36904180)

Interestingly, animal protein intake is actually associated with decreased fertility (PMID: 35623839). That said, I don’t think animal protein per se is negative to fertility. I simply think that high intake of animal protein tends to be associated with overall poorer diet quality. That said, it’s pretty funny that the research data shows the exact opposite of what he claims
